Google Business Profile Suspended? How to Get It Reinstated

A suspension feels like losing your shopfront. Here is how to find the cause, fix it and submit an appeal that has a real chance.

One morning your profile shows “suspended”, or customers say they cannot find you on Maps. A suspension can cut calls overnight. Many are recoverable, but only if you fix the actual cause before you appeal.

Common reasons for suspension

  • Keywords added to the business name
  • Virtual office, co-working desk or PO box address
  • Showing an address for a service area business that does not receive customers there
  • Duplicate listings for the same business
  • Many edits at once, or a sudden change of address or category
  • Suspicious review activity
  • Business type that Google restricts or treats as high risk

Step 1: Check what kind of suspension it is

Google’s messages and the appeals tool usually tell you whether the profile is suspended, restricted or disabled, and sometimes why. Read them carefully.

Step 2: Fix the cause first

  • Rename to your real business name exactly as on signage.
  • Hide the address if you serve customers at their location.
  • Remove or merge duplicates.
  • Correct the category to what you actually are.

Step 3: Gather evidence

  • Photos of permanent exterior signage showing the business name
  • Photos of the entrance and work area
  • GST certificate, shop and establishment licence, or business registration
  • A utility bill or rent agreement in the business name at that address
  • A website with matching name, address and phone

The name and address must match exactly across everything.

Step 4: Submit the appeal

Use Google’s official appeal or reinstatement form. Explain briefly and factually, attach the evidence, and submit once.

Step 5: Wait, and do not edit

Avoid editing the profile while the appeal is under review. If Google asks for video verification, prepare as described in our verification guide.

If the appeal is rejected

Look at what may be missing or inconsistent, fix it and appeal again with better evidence. Some cases also need help through the Google Business Profile community forum, where experienced volunteers can sometimes escalate.

Prevention

  • Keep the name honest.
  • Use a real, staffed address or hide it.
  • Make changes gradually.
  • Never buy reviews.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Google Business Profile reinstatement take?

Often a few days to a few weeks after a complete appeal. Incomplete appeals and repeated submissions can make it slower.

Will I lose my reviews if my profile is suspended?

Usually reviews come back when a profile is reinstated. Creating a new profile instead often means starting from zero.

Can every suspended profile be reinstated?

No. If the business does not meet Google's guidelines, such as a virtual office with no staffed presence, reinstatement may not be possible.

Should I appeal more than once?

Not quickly. Submit one complete appeal with good evidence. If rejected, fix what is missing before trying again.
